Our Club
History
In 2016 the Warwick Gymnastic Club celebrated it's 50th Anniversary, having begun life as the Warwick & District Trampolining Club. Trampolining was a male dominated sport but over time female involvement became the norm and the club transitioned to a Trampolining and Gymnastic Club, later to a purely Gymnastic Club although we do still have an Olympic Trampoline for training purposes.
The Club was initially located amongst a variety of sporting facilities in Queens Park but the 1976 floods washed away the Clubhouse, along with all of the equipment aside from 1 trampoline. The members bounced back quickly and found refuge in the King's Theatre for a short time, acquiring new and donated equipment to get off the ground with basic training. Later in 1977 the Club moved to a building in Albion Street (currently occupied by Headspace).
In 1986 the former Warwick Shire Council sold 2 blocks of land in Easey Street to the Club and this remains the Club's home today. The facility has been expanded 3 times since 1986, each time doubling in size. The latest expansion in 2018 saw an increase to over 1000 square metres under roof. The project was designed to house a full sized Exercise Floor so the Club could host sanctioned competitions. The timing of the build was perfect as it aligned with the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, at the end of which the Club tendered for the Competition Floor. The Club won the tender and now Warwick is home to the floor.
The Club caters for everyone regardless of age, mobility or fitness level. From Tiny Tumblers to the Fitter for Life program, people from all walks of life come to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and use the equipment to better their health and well being.
The Club boasts the capability to host Gymnastics Australia Sanctioned Competitions and for the past few years has hosted the Darling Downs Junior Regional Championships, a State Championships qualifying event. Gymnasts from far and wide come to compete at this wonderful regional facility.
